For the last ten years, Ryan Irelan has created software to power product marketing websites, digital book publishing systems, and news and university websites.
Ryan began his technology career doing web development and quality assurance testing for Mac OS X and Windows client software for an educational technology company. As the first member of the Airbag Industries team, which later became part of Happy Cog in 2009, Ryan has worked as a project manager, back-end developer, and a Technology & Development Director.
A noted expert on the ExpressionEngine content management system, Ryan authored a wildly popular set of training videos for ExpressionEngine developers, the first book on ExpressionEngine 2 and is the creator of the news website, EE Insider. He co-authored a book on how businesses can use podcasting for their marketing efforts. Ryan has built and sustained a small digital publishing company that helps thousands of web designers and developers improve their craft.
Ryan received a BS in German from Middle Tennessee State University and earned his MA in German Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Kent James Brown teaching fellow.
While technology work consumes a large part of Ryan's daily life, he spends his downtime with his wife and daughter in Austin, Texas or travels overseas to visit family. He is a dedicated fan of the University of North Carolina basketball program, and before moving to Austin regularly attended games in Chapel Hill.
