Designing for crisis

Moss Rehab

Moss Rehab home page

MossRehab (part of the Einstein Healthcare network) is an award-winning Philadelphia area physical rehabilitation hospital. It was essential the site’s warm and caring redesign convey a strong message of hope through Moss’s expertise and professionalism.

The unpredictable nature of a traumatic injury meant that from the start, it was crucial we design the site through the lens of a trauma patient’s caretaker: likely away from home, feeling significant stress, and required to make time-sensitive decisions. To help meet these audience needs, the site had to establish trust quickly, then help a visitor move forward with their choice.

The site’s focus on patients and their caretakers drove us towards including some unconventional content. If a patient was coming to Moss from out-of-town, the website featured an online concierge to show patient families where they could take care of basic needs not top of mind during a crisis: nearby accommodations, restaurants, cleaners, etc.

Content was written and structured to show Moss’s expertise, using plain terms anyone could understand. Services were illustrated with success stories from patients who used Moss to help guide their rehabilitation work.
